Sree Bharatha Swamy Temple, Amanakara
Located at Amanakara in Ramapuram Gramapanchayat, the Sree Bharatha Swamy Temple is one of the renowned pilgrimage destinations associated with the Nalambala Darshanam in Kerala. Lord Bharatha, the younger brother of Lord Sree Rama, is the principal deity worshipped here. According to the Ramayana tradition, it is believed that Bharatha performed penance at this place while searching for Lord Sree Rama. The temple was later established at this sacred site.
The famous Nalambala Darshanam comprises four temples dedicated to the four brothers of the Ramayana — the Sree Rama Swamy Temple at Ramapuram, Sree Lakshmana Swamy Temple at Koodappulam, Sree Bharatha Swamy Temple at Amanakara, and Sree Shatrughna Swamy Temple at Methiri. During the Malayalam month of Karkidakam, thousands of devotees visit the temple as part of the traditional Nalambala pilgrimage.
With its distinctive traditional Kerala temple architecture and serene spiritual ambience, the temple stands as one of the important symbols of the cultural and religious heritage of the Ramapuram region. The annual Medam festival and the Nalambala Darshanam during the month of Karkidakam are among the major religious observances held here.
