A panchayat is an association of elected representatives to administer the affairs of panchayat raj institutions. For a gram panchayat, it is the main body that implements the decisions of the gram sabha and conducts day-to-day administration.The main components of a panchayat are:President: He is the head of the panchayat. Presides over the meetings and supervises the overall functioning of the panchayat.Vice President: Performs duties in the absence of the President.Ward Members: People's representatives elected from each ward of the panchayat.Standing Committees: These are sub-committees formed for matters such as finance, development, welfare, health and education to facilitate decision-making.

History of Grama Panchayat

One of the most significant events in the medieval history of Ramapuram was the establishment of the Sree Rama Temple. A few Brahmin families from the village of Ottathur, near Thriprayar, migrated to this region and settled here. Among the prominent families were the Kunnur, Amanakara, Karanatt, Keezhaykkal, and Kunnappilly Illams. Inspired by the Sree Rama Temple at Thriprayar, they installed Lord Sree Rama, their chosen deity, in this region. This marked the beginning of the Ramapuram Temple. The construction of the temple contributed significantly to the social and cultural development of the area. Over time, the temple became an important spiritual centre for the local community.
